Trump calls 'SNL' writer who joked about son 'terrible,' says Madonna is 'disgraceful'
WASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — President Donald Trump is responding to some of the most controversial attacks hurled at him and his family in the days after his inauguration.
In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity Thursday, Trump criticized a “Saturday Night Live” writer who joked on Twitter about his young son Barron being “the country’s first homeschool shooter.” The writer, Katie Rich, has been suspended indefinitely by NBC.
"A person from 'Saturday Night Live' was terrible,” the president said.
“It’s not an easy thing for him,” he added, referring to his son. “Believe me.”
Trump went on to attack the sketch comedy show, which he proudly hosted last season, calling it “failing” and “not funny.” He also said Alec Baldwin, who has been playing Trump this season, is “a disaster.”
Rich tweeted an apology for her comment on Monday, writing “I deeply regret my actions & offensive words. It was inexcusable & I’m so sorry.”
Hannity asked Trump for his thoughts on Madonna’s speech at the Women’s March on Washington on Saturday, in which she said she often thought about "blowing up the White House."
"Honestly, she's disgusting,” Trump said. “I think she hurt herself very badly. I think she hurt that whole cause."
He called the singer “disgraceful to our country.”
Madonna wrote on Instagram earlier this week that her comments were taken out of context and she does not advocate violence.
The interview addressed many other topics, including the executive actions Trump has taken during his first week in office. He defended his views on refugees, border security, torture, and other controversial subjects.
Trump also called the mainstream media “very hostile” and “very angry people.”
"Honestly, it’s fake news. It’s fake. They make things up," he said.
