MarvelWASHINGTON (Sinclair Broadcast Group) — The Runaways are running to Hulu.
Marvel Television announced Wednesday that showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will adapt “Runaways,” a comic series created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, for the streaming service.
The book stars six teenagers who learn their parents are members of an evil organization and, well, run away. With a dinosaur.
The series ran intermittently between 2003 and 2009 in three volumes, including a six-issue run written by future “Avengers” director Joss Whedon with artist Michael Ryan.
Schwartz and Savage are no strangers to teen drama, having previously produced “The O.C.” together and co-created “Gossip Girl.”
"I'm a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn't be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian’s characters to life," Schwartz said in a statement. On Twitter, he called the show a “dream project.”
"Josh and I can't wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu," Savage said.
A co-production with ABC Signature Studios, “Marvel’s Runaways” will be executive produced by Schwartz, Savage, Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory.
According to Deadline Hollywood, which first reported the news, Hulu has ordered a pilot episode and additional scripts.
